Travel Information

According to Wikipedia, Evanston is a suburban city in Cook County, Illinois, United States, 12 miles (19 km) north of downtown Chicago, bordered by Chicago to the south, Skokie to the west, and Wilmette to the north, with a population of 74,486 as of 2010. It is one of the North Shore communities that adjoin Lake Michigan. The boundaries of the city of Evanston are coterminous with those of Evanston Township, although school districts 65 and 202 take in a small portion of eastern Skokie. Evanston is the home of Northwestern University.

For those of you travelling from out of town for the wedding, Evanston is reasonably accessible via the interstate highway system (approximately 40 minutes from O'Hare airport), as well as by Chicago's public transportation system (the "Purple" line services Evanston).

By car or by train

Paid parking is available at several parking garages in the downtown Evanston area, as well as metered street parking. In addition, there is limited free street parking available outside of the downtown area. The closest parking garage is located at Church St and Chicago Ave (number 5 in the map to the right). The hourly rate at City of Evanston parking garages is $1 per hour.

Evanston is serviced by both Chicago rapid transit (CTA) and the Metra light rail system. The closest CTA stop is the Davis stop on the Purple line, and the closest Metra stop is (also) the Davis stop, on the Union Pacific North line. More information about the CTA can be found here, and more information about the Metra can be found here.
